Trailer Brake Controller Installation - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5100

Today on our 2014 Jeep Grande Cherokee, we'll be installing the Draw-Tite Activator Trailer Brake Controller for 1 to 2 axles, part number 5100. We'll be doing this in conjunction with the Tekonsha Wiring Harness Adapter, part number 3045-P. Here's our direct-fit wiring harness. The gray end will match up with the manufacturer's gray plug when plugged directly into it. Once plugged in, we'll route the remaining portion of our harness over to where we'll be mounting the brake controller. Keep in mind to stay away from any moving components such as the gas, brake, or parking brake pedal, or even possibly the steering column when routing your wire. As we route the wiring harness, we'll take the zip ties and secure it as necessary. We'll leave our pigtail hanging as we'll move to mounting the brake controllers. more

Now, to begin the install of our new brake controller, on the driver side above the gas and brake pedal is a carpeted paneling that will need to be removed. To remove it, there are two push pin fasteners that will pry out that will release the carpeting, swing pull it out and set it aside for installation later. Next, above the emergency brake pedal, the white box is a grey plug. Grey plug will match the grey connector on the end of our new brake controller pigtail. We'll go ahead and put our grey plug on the pigtail into the grey socket on the manufacturer side. Now, once we push the connector into position and it locks in place, we'll go ahead and start the routing wires and securing it up underneath the dash. more
